Industry Celebrates Good Scouts

Printing News MagazineJul. 4, 2005—The Graphic Arts Industry Good Scout Award Luncheon, sponsored by the Greater New York Councils, Boy Scouts of America, was held on June 13 at the New York Marriott Marquis hotel in Manhattan.

The event drew more than 300 attendees to celebrate the spirit of community service and helping others. Three graphic arts industry veterans were honored this year: Bill Gallager, director of quality assurance, Hachette Filipacchi Media U.S.; Guy Gleysteen, vice president, paper and digital development, Time Inc.; and Bill Martin, corporate vice president, marketing and business development, Tana Seybert.

The Good Scout award is given to those who, according to event materials, “exemplify in their daily life the ideals of the Boy Scouts of America as expressed in the Scout Oath and Law. Recipients are chosen for their outstanding community service, as evidenced by their leadership to many worthwhile organizations, as well as the respect and esteem in which they are held by their colleagues.”

Proceeds from the event support the various programs, camps, and outings the Boy Scouts sponsor in the New York area, which has more than 122,000 scouts.

“It’s fun to be a scout because you learn new things, and once you get the hang of it, it’s really cool to show the younger kids and your friends what you can do,” said Travis Gonzalez, Boy Scout Troop 150, Staten Island, in his keynote address.
