AGC Recognizes Excellence

Printing News MagazineMay 22, 2006—Association of Graphic Communications (AGC) held its 64th annual Graphic Arts Awards Exhibition May 10 and 11 at the Xerox Knowledge Sharing Center in New York City. Winners across a variety of categories showcased the best of the best in the Metro New York area.

Entries were judged on production quality, and effective utilization of paper, type, color, binding, and other media-relevant elements. Design and function were also taken into account. A panel of 17 judges spent three days going over the entries before deciding on the winners. "So many people worked so hard to make this happen," noted Susie Greenwood, AGC president and CEO.

Technical Excellence Awards are given to the pieces that exemplify superior production quality, striking appearance, utilize innovative techniques, and overcome production challenges. The winners were: CS Raad Inc., Saddle Brook, N.J.; Continental Corp. Engravers, a Division of Precise Corp. Printing, New York City; FLM Graphics Corp., Fairfield, N.J.; Graphic Technology, Newburgh, N.Y.; Graytor Printing Co. Inc., Lyndhurst, N.J.; Harrison Leifer DiMarco, Rockville Centre, N.Y.; Hatteras Press, Tinton Falls, N.J.; Highresolution, New York City; Imtech Graphics, Carlstadt, N.J.; Jaguar Advanced Graphics, Bethpage, N.Y.; R. Wayne Associates Inc., New York City; Sandy Alexander Inc., Clifton, N.J.; The L.P. Thebault Co., Parsippany, N.J.; and Unimac Graphics, Carlstadt, N.J.

Technical Excellence winners were eligible to receive a second award, The Leo, which recognizes the "best of show." The Leo winners this year were CS Raad, Hatteras Press, and Highresolution.

In addition to the awards presentations, AGC and Xerox Corp. offered a series of seminars on various graphic arts topics. "A Great Illustration of Digital Workflow and Full-Color Printing" was presented by Bob Wagner, vice president creative services, Xerox; and Laureen Chudzinski, director, product marketing, XMPie. The session followed the production of the ICON4 Sketchbook program for its 2005 conference. The project was printed on the iGen3 press and created using XMPie's variable technology.
