Edison Litho Hosts Open House

Printing News MagazineSept. 29, 2008— On Sept. 16, Edison Litho, North Bergen, N.J., hosted an open house for customers, clients, and industry players. They invited several guest speakers in, followed by lunch and a shop tour to show off their presses and capabilities. The educational portion of the day began with remarks and a welcome from COO and coordinator of sales for Edison Litho, Joseph Ostreicher. He welcomed the more than 60 people who came and introduced the guest speakers.

Chris Travis, director of technology for KBA, was the first up to speak, talking about KBA's presses and capabilities, and more specifically the new Rapida 205 Edison Litho just installed, which features inline UV coating, and prints up to 81 inches. He was followed by Greg Kestler, printable films product manager for GPA, who provides many plastics and substrates to Edison Litho. He went into more detail on the types of substrates the new press is capable of printing on, and handed out swatch books so attendees—who included several print buyers interested in learning more about the market—could get a better idea of the differences between types of printable plastics. Frank Romano, professor emeritus from RIT, was the last to speak, going into the print market as a whole, what it's doing right, what it's doing wrong, and how printers and buyers can take advantage of it.

The presentation portion of the day was rounded out with a robust question-and-answer session, with attendees asking specific questions about print capabilities, substrates, and what was and was not possible with the new press.

Afterward, Edison Litho had buses on hand to transport everyone the several minutes drive to its nearby facilities, where the firm had large-format posters featuring pictures taken at the presentation already coming off the newest KBA press. After lunch, members of Edison Litho gave a tour of the facility, answering questions about the presses and applications.

Edison Litho did an excellent job of merging education and information, putting on an event everyone could enjoy and learn from.
